Greetings Class,
I hope everyone had a great first semester at SAS. I hope the break we took from our course was beneficial for your exam preparation. Exams are behind us so we can now regroup and continue our journey with Planning 10.
As you know we live in a society that includes many unhealthy habits. This includes illegal drugs and activities that influence a negative environment for your health. Many to most of us do not want to be involved or near this type of activity. It also includes the unhealthy activity of smoking cigarettes (while it has decreased over the past 10 years it still has significant influence on teens). It would be naive to believe these choices are not around Salmon Arm. Many people, both teens and adults, make poor choices each day with one or both of these substances.
The next two assignments will complete our unit on health. The purpose of these final health assignments is to better educate you on the facts. I do not want you or others to base decisions and understandings from word of mouth as many to most of the time this information does not have the credibility to support the real truth. The more educated people we have in society to share the truth about these harmful substances to others the better chance we will have to decrease their use.
The first assignment I want you to research is based on smoking cigarettes. You will research the information noted in the assignment and present your findings in a poster format. The poster will be created as an electronic document. You can use word/pages/publisher to create your poster. Please familiarize yourself with the marking rubric as this is how your mark will be awarded for both your written notes (you will hand these in to me), and with your poster (you will email this to me). You are also required to submit a 250 word reflection on this assignment when you email me your poster. Your reflection should include what you learned, your thoughts and opinions about the subject, and your thoughts and opinions about the project. Remember to back any critical views with suggestions or ideas to balance your point.

The due date for this project is Wednesday February 9th @ 11:59pm. Notes will need to be handed in to me Thursday February 10th in my office.
